British Virgin IslandsJanuary, 2010
We arrived on January 5 after flying from Greensboro to Miami, Purto Rico then Tortola and boarded our chartered yacht at Conch Charters in Road Town shortly after dark. A quick dinner and we were ready for the end of day one. The next morning began with stowing gear, then taking delivery on provisions ordered from Bobby's Market (on time, no problems) and 6 tanks & weights reserved by Sail Caribbean Divers. A few bags of ice and we were ready to leave the dock by 11 am. Finally, our vacation is really started! We had light winds but no place to go in a hurry so spent our first night at anchor in Great Harbor, Peter Island. For the next week we woke in the morning, enjoyed a fresh cup of coffee as we decided where to dive that day, get tank fills and anchor for the night. A light breakfast and it was time to pull up the anchor and set sail. Well, light winds required us to motor more that we would have liked, but that meant we could dive sites that are often too exposed. The final morning we enjoyed our last onboard coffee, finished packing, pulled the anchor and discovered the boat would not go into gear. After initial concern about making flights, we realized that we were lucky in that we had a light but sufficient wind to enjoy a 2 hour sail to Road Town and a taxi ride to the airport with pleanty of time to spare.
